I Wish These People Updated More Than Once a Year

The more things change, the more they...okay, this diagram is a bit different than previous

Six months ago, I posted about Airset gorilla-humping Google Calendar, complete with diagram of copulating gorillas.  Most people agreed, with the exception of Michael McClenaghan.  Of course, since that time Michael culled his list of blog feeds and now seems to spend the majority of his time looking at pictures of other people's kids - not exactly the behavior you'd associate with a qualified technical resource!  Airset 3,876,123, Google 1.

In the interest of fairness, however, I thought I would revisit Airset and Google Calendar and see what new features have cropped up in the last half year:

Airset new features:

  • beta of their new Planner, which now gives the drag and drop functionality that Google Calendar has had
  • mobile service for Java-enabled handsets

Airset features that are not necessarily new but definitely impact me and others in my search:
  • Airset does have .ics support!
  • Instructions on how to sync with the Mac's ICal!  Rock on!

Google Calendar new features:
  • you can now add phases of the moon to your calendar.
  • and that's pretty much it.
  • Seriously?  Moon phases?  Who was clamoring for *this*?

6 months have gone by and Airset had added the missing features that I would have needed, and Google is futzing around with icons.  I'd love to meet the person whose 20% research time was spent dreaming up this thing!    In fairness, it's nice to have some fun stuff in apps as well, and I *do* like Google - I am nothing if not a complete whore for Gmail.  But I think we can now all admit to ourselves that Airset can be capably upgraded to Google Calendar killer...well, except for Michael, unless Airset adds some randomized toddler picture thing.
