Edmonton may be dead, but the crime rate sure isn't
Edmonton may not be the "City of Champions" anymore, but it can still be proud that it is #1 at *something*, and that something is the
#1 homicide rate in Canada
. I know this is going to make me sound like a bit like a crotchety old man despite being neither old nor crotchety, but what is up with the massively increased crime rate in our city? I can't think of many other cities that feature a bus stabbing *and* a near dismemberment happening 5-10 blocks from each other *on the same night*. My friend Steve says that Vancouver would be just like this. I beg to differ:
Search on Google News for "Edmonton Bus Stabbing"
: Tons of results
Search on Google News for "Vancouver Bus Stabbing"
: *One* result - and it's talking about the bus stabbings in
*Edmonton*
.
What the heck is wrong with our city? I mean, we're not such a depraved city that
we attack each other with meat cleavers
, but being called "Canada's Murder Capital" is certainly getting there...
Edmontonians? What do you think is the cause?
