HA! I TOLD people that the whole idea of Mars factoring in to the Transformers movie was a sign of bad things...and this solidifies it! If they want to make a movie about alien robots that come to Earth to start crap, I'm absolutely OK with that and would definately see it...but DON'T slap a brand on it just to drive ticket sales! Unbelievable. At least we have the new TMNT movie to fulfill our childhood memories.

I'm not even a Transformers fan and even *I* am disgusted with what they did to Megs. Surely Takara and Hasbro have to be appalled with these "changes" to their TF line?!?!? Where is the outrage?!!? I want to see full-scale picketing against the complete redesign of the Transformers!!
Then again, maybe these are fake photos and the movie will feature a more appropriate Megatron and Starscream?

MrsL: that's why I married you. ;)
As much as I want to cling to the "These must be fake" thoughts, I'm reasonably sure the pictures above are real.
D'Arcy: I had misgivings after the trailer featuring no transforming robots, but this is pretty much firming it up. And Bumblebee as a Camaro??

I can't believe the changes they made for the movie. I'm not a purist as I was able to watch the Beast Wars cartoons and still enjoyed them but I can only shake my head at the changes for Megatron. And you had to ruin it even further by saying that Bumblebee is no longer a little yellow bug.
The only retro show that has been remade in a good way has been the BattleStar Galactica series. Season 3 starts soon.

I like the new versions. I watched the shows since I was a kid. I have loved every form of Transformers and even have figures from about every saga. I really do like the new, more realistic take they did with the transformers designs. Megatron looks the way he does because in the movie, he never undergone the changes that allow the other Transformers to hide themselves.
Too bad most people cannot accept any changes to anything they have been long time fans of. I, on the other hand, think it's great to see just what ideas other people have for the designs.

Guppy - you should post an E-mail address or web site so we can talk further!
I don't mind changes (I have toys from every era - G1, G2, Beast Wars, Beast Machines, Armada, Energon (a *TON* from this line - one of my absolute favorites), Cybertron, Alternators, Masterpiece, and classics. So I'm no stranger to different interpretations. I just feel like some of these characters are *completely* unrecognizable. Unlike Armada, Energon, and Cyberton, which did a lot of "hat-tipping" to the existing fan-base, what sort of stuff has there been in this movie other than Peter Cullen being Optimus' voice?

Sorry, but I love the new versions. Transformers has also been a love of mine since childhood. While I'll always like their old-school designs, I am very pleased with all their new designs; specially Megatron. Not to mention Megatron looked as he did because he didn't have an alt-form.

Chris - I totally agree and I should update this page to reflect it. The movie was actually phenomenal!

Heh I might be the first woman transformer geek to post here.
I watched Transformers since I was 6, I had the toys, I hang out with guys who also loved the show.
And I love the new versions. Why? I dunno, I just do. Especially Prime, my one true love ;), though I did have a bit of a problem with Starscream, but once I got used to him, it was cool. The deal is, in my opinion, that for a new viewer, the older versions of Transformers would just look naive and comical. And guys, you gotta admit, Megatron's alternate form sucked, I always thought it's stupid how he transformed into a friggin gun. And now he looks SERIOUSLY scary. Like respect for him grows the moment you see him. Starscream stopped looking like a dimwit too, though I love the dimwitty plotty trecherous Screamer, yes I did...

Honestly, I hate the Decepticons' designs, though I still enjoyed the movie. Another female, by the way. I have been a fan of that side since G1. I could accept Beast Wars (and liked it), though I don't care so much for Armada, it's not because of the designs. However, Megatron is completely unrecognizable. Yes, I can accept that he didn't have an alt mode for Earth, however, in G1, before they came to earth 4 million years ago, they still looked, essentially, the same.
Honestly, they should have taken some cues from artists like this:
http://timshinn73.deviantart.com/art/Movie-Starscream-Redux-V-2-0-39046883
http://timshinn73.deviantart.com/art/Movie-Megatron-Head-Design-38850038
That version of Starscream is "modern" and has all of the fancy stuff that the movie tried to give their faces, but it retains the "classic" look. The same with Megatron. They might have been able to tweak the helmet a bit more, but even with that, they would have retained the basic look of the character.
