I Wish These People Updated More Than Once a Year

Is anyone else powerfully aroused?

Ridley wrote a post detailing the end of humanity as we know it vis a vis the lineups in Edmonton for the PS3.  My wife then followed up with a comment, including the following:

"You know, the even stupider thing is that a couple of months from now, someone else will release an even cooler gaming system, forcing these game systems to become yesterday's news (XBox, Xbox 360, PS3, Wii...what's next?!).

I am waiting until Hubbs' old DreamCast and PS2 and GameCube and XBox give out before even dreaming of another system. We really do have enough, non?"

This is one of the few times that my wife has been wrong.  Twice.

1) *NO ONE* will be releasing a console cooler than the Nintendo WiiEver.  I don't even care about the motion sensor technology.  What I care about is playing the NES, Genesis, Turbografx-16, Super NES, and N64 libraries of games on one system.
2) We most definitely do not have enough game systems until we have the Wii!  Then, and *maybe* then, will I consider my life to be complete.

I have a confession to make - I own entirely too many video game systems.  The Dreamcast, PS2, Gamecube, and XBox are just the systems I have out by my television.  In boxes at home I also have an N64, NES, Sega Master System (with light gun), TurboDuo (the Turbografx+TurbografxCD unit combo), Colecovision, Atari 2600, Super NES, Sega Genesis, and the Sega CD (I had a PS1, but I threw it away when it stopped reading discs).  Heck, I've even got some of the old Japanese Nintendo tabletops.  If this doesn't make me the coolest and most desirable male on the planet I don't know what does.  The point of this is to tell you that the Wii is better than all of these systems combined.  The Wii can take the shattered wreckage of your life and make it whole again - all of your tragedies erased in a single swing of its motion sensor controller.

I'm not a big fan of lining up to fight people for consoles like when Mack Male cold cocked a 75 year old grandmother with a folding chair so he could be the first to get an XBox360.  But I am telling you to go line up, sell your kidneys, and buy the Wii.  Do it for yourself.  Do it for your family.  Most of all, do it for me, because I cannot buy it!  You see, I had a choice to make a couple of months ago - pick up the Mac, or pick up the Wii.  The two roads diverged in a wood and I...I chose the road less travelled by.  And that, my friends, has made all the difference.  Man, that's poetic.

My only dilemma is do I try to get it at launch (making it the first system I've picked up on day one) or do I wait a few weeks?

Because right now, the only launch titles I'm really interested in are Zelda and Trauma Center. And possibly Ultimate Alliance.

Have you tried to convince the little woman that when you get the Wii, you won't be needing the GC anymore in front of the TV, since it is freakin' backwards compatible?

As always, Kyle, you are a beacon of light in a sea of darkness. Actually, the big game I'm looking forward to is Metal Slug Anthology, of all things. That and pretty much the entire Turbografx library - I'm hoping that Blazing Lasers eventually gets released.

I will give this argument re: backwards compatibility to my wife and if successful you will be the first person invited to play with my Wii!!

Uh...

Hey, that woman deserved it.

I am planning to buy a Wii. Just not sure when. I think it will look great next to my Xbox 360. And I totally agree with you, the games library is the biggest draw!

Maybe I can get "Santa" to deliver once again!

Oh, I should also mention, I have an original Atari (CX-2600A) with about 40 games too ;)

I have already mentioned my excitement for the best video game that will ever be released, but it bears repeating: Bob Ross's The Joy Of Painting will be available for only one console system. The Wii. Yet another reason to bow down to the Wii.

I thought you were *kidding* about that!! That's a real game!?!?

No Wii for me. It's not made for thumbless wonders like myself.

OMG, you have a ColecoVision? I had one, long time ago. That's pure old school. Zaxxon, Venture, Qbert, Donkey Kong, Defender...

Ah, the memories.

That tears it - we are due to have a COLECOVISION PARTY at my place this Christmas!!!

the wii sucks,
its just so pointless and tacky, its like taking a step back in good graphics and good games.
as for the remote thing, its just so lame and tacky.
games are here to make us relax and enjoy ourselfs, yet, now they want you to do all that crappy work, which dosent even make it feel real anyway, no wonder why its cheaper then all the other consoles, its cuz its the tackiest.
